Abstract: A novel initiative called Open Source Courses is proposed to provide an alternative solution for improving the poor efficiency of teachers' lesson preparation activitiesexpending the limited incentive coverage of education management departmentsand satisfying the interests of teachers in MOOC courses.Furthermorethe definitioncharacteristics of open source courses are describedand the processprinciplesand key technologies of open source course construction are proposed based upon the lessons from the construction of the first Open Source Course named Introduction to Data Science. The Open Source Course action initiative is a novel teaching reform idea after MOOCwhich has a high reference value for further promoting teaching reformespecially to reuse teaching resourcesimprove the quality of lesson preparationshare teaching experienceand make up for the deficiency of MOOC courses.

Key words: Course construction, Data Science, Open Source Course, Teaching reform
