Research Status and Development Trend of Vehicle Following Control System

Abstract: It has strongly been showed that intelligent vehicle following and vehicle platooning will be an effective way to deal with daily road traffic problems such as traffic congestion, traffic safety and environmental pollution.In this article, the development stages of vehicle following control system are explicated, and the latest research achievements of vehicle following control system in recent years are objectively and comprehensively discussed from the aspects of environmental perception technology, desired inter-vehicle clearance strategy, longitudinal and lateral vehicle dynamic modeling, as well as cooperative decision and control algorithms.Furthermore, the common problems of vehicle following control system are summarized, and some viewpoints concerning the future trend of such research are also suggested.
