Research of Discrete Cosine Transform for Image Compression Algorithm

Abstract: With the development of communication technology,image compression technology has attracted more and more people’s attention.The paper mainly studied the use of discrete Cosine transform (DCT) to compress the image.The advantages of using DCT technique to excute image compression was analyzed by Matlab simulation.The paper introduced the principle of DCT and the necessity of image compression at first.Then DCT was used to compress image,and Huffman code analysis was done.Through Matlab simulation comparing the effect of DCT compressed image,the simulation proves that using DCT compression under the high bit rate can achieve better effect.
