  • Guo-liang CHEN, the editor-in-chief of Computer ScienceCS, is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a professor and doctoral supervisor of University of Science and Technology of China, Shenzhen University and Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications. He was awarded the National Famous Teacher in Universities (first term). He is currently the founding dean of College of Computer Science and Software Engineering, and the director of National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology, in Shenzhen University.

    Prof. Chen Guoliang’s main research fields include parallel algorithms, high performance computing and its applications, etc. He has undertaken more than 10 scientific research projects, such as National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (“863” Program), National “Climbing” Program, Major State Basic Research Development Program of China (“973” Program) and National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has obtained a series of research achievements which has received international recognition. He has published more than 400 papers and 10 academic works and textbooks, and has got more than 20 awards, such as Second-class Prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, First-class Prizes of Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education, Second-class Prizes of Science and Technology Progress Award of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Level 2 National Award of Education, Ministry of Water Resources Dayu Water Science and Technology Award, Second-class Prizes of Science and Technology Progress Award of Anhui Province, 2009 Major Scientific and Technological Achievement Award in Anhui Province. He has also won the 15th Anniversary Advanced Individual Major Contribution Award of “863” Program, Special Award for Excellent Teachers from Baosteel? Education Fund, and Glorious Title of Model Workers in Anhui Province. Under his leadership, the “Teaching Team of Parallel Computing Related Courses” was awarded the National Teaching Team in 2009, by the PRC Ministry of Education.

    Over many years Prof. Chen has been devoted to the cause of teaching and research of parallel computing. He has gradually created and put forward a complete discipline system which involves theory, design, implementation and application of the algorithms, as well as a parallel computing research methodology which incorporates parallel machine architecture, parallel algorithms and parallel programming. Prof. Chen founded China's first National High Performance Computing Center in 1995, and successively developed KD and SD series universal high performance computers based on domestic CPU. Prof. Chen is the pioneer and creator of the scientific research and teaching base of parallel computing in China, and the tutor of more than 200 postdoctors, PhDs and postgraduates. He has been regarded as the leader in the field of non-numerical parallel algorithms in China, and has acquired global influence and reputation both in academics and in education.
