Abstract: For energy harvesting wireless sensor networks (EH-WSNs) working under the extremely low-duty-cycle mode and using the super capcitor as energy storage device, both the average energy harvesting rate and the throughput of node greatly depend on the capacitor voltage when it begins to sleep and wakes up.This paper firstly demonstrated that the energy harvesting rate significantly depends on the instant capacitor voltage through the theoretical analysis, then formulated the maximal node throughput problem and finally provided an approach to solve this problem for obtaining the optimal values of capacitor voltage to start sleeping and capactior voltage to wake up.Numerical results show that the throughput of the duty-cycle-optimized scheme is significantly larger than that of the available duty-cycle schemes.
