摘要： web GIS是传统GIS发展的必然，目前有很多实现方法同样存在许多困难。本文讨论了当前Web GIS的发展态势以及面临的主要技术问题，详细分析了一种基于XML的矢量图形描述语言（SVG）的概念、它应用于Web GIS上的优点以及用于构建实时的web GIS的关键技术，并给出了一个应用实例。
